Oh Eun-Hee

Lee In-Soo
Abstract
Objectives: This study, theoretically grounded in Satir¡¯s Transformational Systemic Therapy Model, explored the effects of congruence and locus of control (both internal and external) on marital intimacy.

Methods: A survey was conducted in 2011 with 297 people?122 males and 175 females between the ages of 30-70. Data were analyzed using t-tests, one-way ANOVA, and hierarchical multiple regression.

Results: Males who rated themselves as economically successful and women with college educations had the highest levels of intimacy. For men, congruence had a greater influence on intimacy than internal control. For women, the interpersonal and spiritual dimensions of congruence had the most significant effects on intimacy.

Conclusions: The findings of this study indicate that congruence has a more significant effect on marital intimacy than internal and external locus of control.
